If you decide to learn the art of sewing at home, you will probably need the skill to sew a collar yourself. A beautiful collar will help you to add originality to both a simple blouse and an elegant dress.
In this article, we will discuss how to sew a collar called Peter Pan with lace. Peter Pan is a turn-down collar with rounded ends.
Collar Peter Pan
You will need a fabric, it may be the fabric from which the product itself is sewn or different from it, it all depends on the style of the product and your wishes. In addition, you will need a non-woven fabric and thin lace.
Pattern
To get started, you need to make a pattern. Measure the neckline in your product. Conventionally, we take a neck with a diameter of 36 cm. In this case, the pattern should be a semicircle 18 cm long and 3 cm wide.
Cooking
- Take the fabric you have prepared and fold its end in half, overlay the pattern and pin it with pins on both sides.
- Outline with a pencil or chalk.
- Then, start cutting the fabric backing 0.5 cm from the drawn edge.
- Thus, you have already obtained two details of your future collar, you will need two more, for this, just repeat again, all that you did before.
- Now, in the same way, open the non-woven fabric. You will need two parts of non-woven fabric. When cutting non-woven fabric, you do not need to leave a stock, cut strictly according to your pattern.
Sewing technique
When your patterns are completely ready, you can proceed directly to sewing.
-
Take two pieces of fabric and lay non-woven on them with adhesive side down. Iron the product, but be careful not to heat the iron too much.
- Take your lace and make a thin line along one edge, then pull it a little to slightly pick up the lace.
- Take the two halves of the collar and fold them with their faces to each other, and inside lay the cooked lace, so that the stitched side of the lace is hidden.
- Now, where your non-woven fabric is sewn, carefully sew the lace along the outer semicircle with a needle.
- Thus, you have the wrong side of the collar, where inside, along the edge runs lace. Now sew in a circle around the lace.
- Now turn the collar face up and carefully sew it 1 mm from the edge.
- Then, overlock the inside of your collar.
- Iron your collar thoroughly.
As you can see, there is nothing complicated in making a Peter Pan collar at home. If desired, you can make the same cuffs for your product, according to the same pattern. Also, you can decorate the collar with a bow, which can also be sewn independently. Even a baby dress can be decorated with such a collar.

Bow
For a bow you will need a 2.5 cm wide satin ribbon. Cut four identical pieces of tape 12-13 cm long and one small 4-5 cm.
Take one of the large segments and fold it so that the ends are connected, now take the second segment and do the same. Put one folded section on the other, so that the ends of the segments are centered inside and sew them in this place, collecting a little. You should get a bow.
Now take a small piece. Fold it in half and wrap it in the middle of your bow, sew on the inside.
Fold the remaining ribbons together and sew to the inside of the bow. Cut the ends of the tapes obliquely.
Your bow is ready!
