All women love to create unique crafts or household items.
Sewing clothes or bedding is inspiring, as these items are used by our family members.
And every woman, at least once in her life, thought about how to sew a bed set herself.
Firstly, it makes it possible to choose the shade and quality of the fabric you like, and secondly, create a unique design.
At first glance, this seems complicated.
But with the right approach to business, it is immediately clear that this is quite easy. This lesson will bring a lot of pleasant emotions and the cost will be much less than store prices.
Sizes of a bed set
First of all, you should decide on the size of bed linen that you need.
Alternatively, you can measure your old bedding, and by its standards sew a new set.
Or choose the size you need from the options below. Here are the standard sizes of patterns for sleeping sets:
Double set
Duvet cover: 200/220 cm.
Sheet: 175/210 cm.
Pillowcases: 70/70 cm. (2 pcs.)
One and a half set
Duvet cover: 160/220 cm.
Sheet: 150/215 cm.
Pillowcases: 50/70 cm. (2 pcs.)
Single set
Duvet cover: 200/135 cm.

If you have a bed with non-standard sizes, be sure to measure it so as not to miscalculate the size of the bed.
Fabric selection and colors
And when you have decided on the size, it is worth thinking about the material. After all, bed linen provides comfort and coziness during sleep.
Fabric should be selected according to your needs. For linen that will be often used, it is worth choosing a fabric that is pleasant to the body, durable, and well-permeable to air. Such as: calico, calico, linen, satin, as well as flannel, cotton.
For special romantic occasions, you can choose a silk fabric, and it will turn out bright, beautiful linen.
Now decide on the color of the fabric. Currently, the variety of shades is impressive, and you can easily find the shade you need.
For a children's kit, bright shades of fabric with characters of your favorite cartoons will be suitable.
And for a family bed, it is possible to choose bright as well as calmer fabric colors, it depends on your preference.
Preparing the pattern
And so we chose the fabric, decided on the size, and now we can transgress to the process of preparing the pattern of our details. To do this, we need a table for cutting parts, a ruler and crayon for marking on fabric, and of course scissors.
The acquired fabric, pre-washed and ironed, we lay out on the table and cut the length you need. According to your size.
Thus, if our fabric is 220 cm wide, here are the following sizes of patterns:
Double set
Duvet cover: 450 cm. It is long and 210 cm. Width, we retreated 5 cm. To allowances.
Sheet: 220 cm. / 185 cm. (Including allowances)
Pillowcase: 150/80 cm. (Including allowances) (2 pcs.)
Fabric consumption: 785 cm.
Single set
Duvet cover: 410/145 cm.
Sheet: 210/120 cm.
Pillowcases: 80/60 cm. (2 pcs.)
Fabric consumption: 570 cm.
For one and a half set
Duvet cover: 440 cm. / 160 cm. + 5 cm for allowances.
Sheet: 160/225 cm. (Including allowances)
Pillowcase: 150/60 cm. (Including allowances) (2 pcs.)
Fabric consumption: 685 cm.
For a crib
Duvet cover: 280/130 cm. (Including allowances)
Sheet: 148/130 cm. (Including allowances)
Pillowcase: 70/70 cm. (Including allowances) (2 pcs.)
Fabric consumption: 420 cm.
Tailoring of bed linen
And so when the patterns are ready, we can transgress, directly to tailoring our bedding set.
This is a rather crucial stage of our process, since the appearance of the finished product depends on the quality of the seams. It is better to give preference to a hem in a hem with a closed cut. Its advantage is in durability, accuracy and will not allow the edges to crumble.
To do this, pay special attention to the selection of threads, correctly select the thickness, strength and color that matches your fabric. In this case, durable and elastic threads made of synthetic materials (composition 100% polyester) are an excellent choice.
Of course, we can sew the items we need, possibly manually, but I think it will be easier and more convenient for you on a typewriter.
Sewing a duvet cover
We take our pattern, initially we process the edges around the entire perimeter of the part with an overlock.
If you don’t have an overlock, we bend each edge by 0.5 cm. And then again, but iron it by 1 cm or mark it and sew it on a typewriter, so our edges look neat and will not crumble.
After that, we fold our fabric in half with the front side inwards and sew them, not forgetting to leave a hole on one side in order to fill our blanket into it.
Sewing pillowcases
We take the prepared pattern, and, tucking 2 times each edge of 1 cm. Iron or bast and sew on a typewriter.
Make a lapel not less than 27 cm. So it will be fixed and will not come off the pillow.
After that, we fold the fabric with the face to each other, not forgetting that one edge is 27 cm longer. This is the lapel of our pillowcase. When sewing the lapel, the fabric folds with the wrong side inward to the edge from which we retreated and sew. We turn the product, straighten the edges and carefully iron. All your pillowcase is ready!
Sewing sheets
For sewing the sheets, take our pattern, and, after making a double bend of 2 cm, iron or outline it. Then stitch the edges on a typewriter.
During use, the sheet quickly loses its former appearance. Therefore, so that your kit does not look multicolored or disbanded, pre-sew a few sheets.
When our sewing came to an end, with the help of scissors we cut the excess thread. We turn our product on the front side and iron it well. Then we cover your bed with our own creation. How, all the same, it will be pleasant to soak up the bed in your own hand-sewn linen!
If you enjoyed making bedding and are happy with the result.
